Our contribution to resource‑efficient packaging solutions: We focus on solutions that reduce shipping volume, weight and material usage, thereby lowering the amount of waste generated. These improvements enhance the efficiency of our customers’ logistics processes and reduce overall resource consumption.
Resource‑efficient production processes: We continuously modernize our production facilities and workflows to reduce emissions and optimize material use. For many years, we have relied on water‑based inks and water‑soluble adhesives. In addition, we avoid, separate and recycle production waste in accordance with applicable standards.
Energy efficiency as a priority: We work continuously to reduce our energy consumption and increase the energy efficiency of our operations. When purchasing, we prefer energy-efficient products, taking into account not only acquisition costs but also long‑term energy and operating costs.
THE ENTIRE LIFECYCLE
Bong works to reduce the environmental impact of its products throughout their life cycle by developing and manufacturing solutions designed for efficient use of materials and resources.
Envelopes and packaging generate environmental impacts at every stage of their life cycle — from responsible forest management and raw‑material sourcing to recycling, energy recovery or disposal at end of life. Bong’s environmental initiatives vary across the value chain depending on the degree of influence and identified priorities. Measures that reduce energy and water consumption and lower CO₂ emissions per unit produced at our manufacturing sites are given the highest priority.
We shall always comply with applicable environmental legislation, regulations and government regulations. Legal permits and conditions represent the minimum level of our environmental performance; we aim to continuously improve our processes within this framework.
We are working with the objective that all plants in the Group will be certified with ISO 14001. To date eight of our production-sites are certified with ISO 14001.
More than half of our production sites also carry both the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certifications, and an additional five production sites carry the FSC® certification.
FSC® and PEFC only certify forests which are managed in a renewable and environmentally friendly way. The certification of Bong's facilities means that the origin of the raw material can be traced and guaranteed in every step of the production flow of each plant.
As Bong is a pan-European company working in a number of markets we carry a variety of certifications, corresponding to the environmental certifications available in our local markets. For envelopes in the Nordic countries, for example, The Swan is a guarantee that the product is made of approved paper grades, that glue and printing colours are water-based and that the window is detachable. The corresponding label in Germany is Der Blaue Engel and in France NF Environment.
We comply with the environmental laws and rules that apply in each country.
